Assignment to Safari Animals/Kooky Zoo series

I've noted that this dispenser is often grouped with the Safari Animals series, which was sold in the U.S., whereas Blinky Bill was not.

There are several reasons that argue against inclusion.

  • First and foremost, Blinky Bill is a licensed character, whereas the Crocodile, Elephant, Hippo, and Lion are original PEZ creations.
  • As shown in the respective entries on MoMoPEZ, the Safari Animals euro cards feature an illustration of a crocodile, elephant, hippo, and lion -- but not a koala.
  • The mail-order forms from the late 90s offer the crocodile, elephant, hippo, and lion, along with the easter lamb and rabbit and two trucks, as "Safari Animals & other PEZ dispensers." Blinky Bill is not included.
  • When the Safari Animals received the crystal treatment, Blinky Bill was not included.
  • A final, though perhaps trivial, consideration is that the crocodile, elephant, hippo, and lion are all animals that you might see on Safari in Africa, whereas the koala is only found in Australia.

The evidence for inclusion is as follows.

  • The photos of the series on the back of some (but not all) of the Safari Animals euro cards show Blinky Bill along with the other four animals, as does the back of the Blinky Bill card itself.
  • The PEZ USA website shows all five dispensers together under the "Kooky Zoo" label for 1997, although this contradicts the "Safari Animals" name on the mail-order form.
